On May 24, 2011 Norwell Soccer tragically lost a great member of its community. Mike Smith, was one of the biggest supporters of Norwell Soccer. Mike dedicated himself to the program because of its inclusive nature for kids of all athletic abilities. He understood how the program operated and knew WHY Norwell Soccer was the single most popular recreational activity in town! In addition to coaching and coordinating teams, Often times, Mike could be found resetting the timers on the sprinklers at Osborne, helping to line and set up fields for the start of the season or just taking the nets off the goals for the winter. He was a coach, a friend and an advocate for the Norwell Soccer.
On top of that, Mike was a true volunteer and understood its meaning. He was the volunteer game administrator at many Norwell High School Soccer events, Mike was committed to Norwell and its athletics programs and understood the significant role that sports play in the development of young men and women. Mike was a good man and provided support, guidance and the occasional anecdotal stories of the Norwell field issues, but always in a humorous and lighthearted way. Mike will truly be missed, but as every season kicks-off he will be remembered for his strong contributions to Norwell Soccer and his work in creating the Osborne Field for Norwell Soccer.
